Frank aged 18 years with Gypsy

At the age of fourteen I started shooting. In 1963 I obtained a labrador bitch puppy which I called Gyp. I trained Gyp for hunting and retrieving and we spent many happy hours together. It was on these hunting trips that I was able to study the manner in which Gyp found both dead and wounded game. I joined the Newcastle-Under-Lyne / Stoke-On-Trent dog society meeting every Sunday in the month for gundog training and eventually helped with training.

In 1973 I moved to Mid Wales to work as a Gamekeeper on Crogen estate near Bala. Here I soon discovered that our neighbouring estate owners were Neil and Mary Lamb. Having limited knowledge of Field Trials at that time I was unaware of the amount of support Mary and Neil Lamb gave to field trials both as hosts and competitors and so my education of gundogs continued.

1984 was a special year for me and the beginning of competative gundog work. Neil Lamb was captain of the Welsh International gundog teams, springer spaniels and retrievers, and held a selection test. I was successful with my labrador retriever Ebony Royal. At the C.L.A. Broadlands, I competed against Bill Meldrum with FTCH. Sandringham Salt. Judging the event was Phillip White and Arnold - White Robinson

1986 I won my first field trial with Ebony Royal and continued to trial, with the odd judging appointment. I have represented Wales at International level at The CLA Gamefairs nine times and subsequent internationals in England Ireland Scotland and Wales.

1994 I organised the first gundog international at the Anglesey County Show.and for the past two years have had the added attraction of a team from Holland competing.

Since 1986 I have had comparative success in field trials with several dogs and over the past few years have judged many trials and competitions. I also enjoy training and judging abroad and look forward to trialing my young dogs in the future.
